Mr. Chris Kuto, President AFCAC.

The African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) is embarking on measures to garner support to raise the critical capacity that would enable it successfully deliver its mandate in the air transport industry in Africa. As part of the renewed moves by the Commission, the President of AFCAC, Mr. Chris Kuto, says the body is seeking the support of a State to host its Diplomatic Conference in 2009. AFCAC, he says, is already approaching some States for this purpose, noting further that the Conference would present a forum to chart the way forward for AFCAC as a relevant agent for growth and development of the air transport industry in Africa. “AFCAC has the mandate to do it, but we need to strengthen it together. We need to work together” he calls. Mr. Kuto cites inadequate funding as the major constraint of AFCAC and urges States to make their contributions in order to enable the Commission bolster its secretariat in areas of safety, security and manpower.
