Kenya signs open skies agreement with US
Hon.Ali Mwakwere, Minister of Transport, Kenya.

Hon. Ali Mwakwere, Minister of Transport, KenyaKenya has entered into an agreement for Open Skies with the United States of America, bringing the number of US Open Skies Partners in Africa to 20 out of the total number of 92. The US Secretary of Transportation, Honourable Mary Peters says both countries were able to reach the final agreement after two days of negotiations and that “it lays the groundwork for future air service between United States and Kenya that will provide new options for travellers as well as economic benefits to both countries.” She explains that transportation is critical to realizing the potentials that the United States sees in Africa. The agreement was signed by Honourable Peters on behalf of the US and Honourable Ali Mwakwere, Kenya’s Minister of Transport, who signed for his country. The agreement is the first ever for aviation services between the US and Kenya and both countries are expected to benefit from the deal as direct flights originating from the agreement could help to achieve greater export of Kenyan flowers to the US where there is a high level of
Demand.
