African Airlines shine in Asia, India Ocean

Air Zimbabwe and Air Mauritius have been honoured with  Awards by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) at its third consecutive Changi Airline Awards held recently. The Awards were for airlines that carried the most passengers and cargo through Singapore Changi  Airport, as well as airlines that achieved the highest year-on-year growth in passenger and cargo. Air Zimbabwe was among the Top 5 Airlines by Growth in Passenger Carriage while Air Mauritius was among the five winners of the Top 5 Airlines by Growth in Cargo Carriage.

There were 30 awards under four categories of the Changi Airline Awards and each winner received a specially sculptured trophy. The four award categories are 'Top 10 Airlines by Passenger Carriage', 'Top 10 Airlines by Cargo Carriage', 'Top 5 Airlines by Growth in Passenger Carriage' and 'Top 5 Airlines by Growth in Cargo Carriage'.  The selection criteria were based on the airlines' total traffic (passenger / cargo) through Changi and percentage growth rate of total traffic (passenger /cargo) in 2007 compared to the year before.  The 'Top 5 Airlines by Growth in Passenger Carriage' and 'Top 5 Airlines by Growth in Cargo Carriage' categories recognized airlines that registered the greatest growth in terms of passenger and cargo carriage in 2007. Air Zimbabwe shared the passenger category with Jet Airways, Xiamen Airlines, Tiger Airways and Transaero Airlines while Air Mauritius won the cargo category with China Eastern, Jet Airways, Swiss International Air Lines and Xiamen Airlines.

Air Mauritius has equally won the 15th World Travel Awards (WTA) in the category of Indian Ocean Leading Airline for the second consecutive year. The World Travel Awards for Asia and Indian Ocean had a total of 800 nominated companies and organisations participating.
