Airlink, Southern Africa’s regional airline, says the successful implementation of new advanced Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) at Maseru’s Moshoeshoe International Airport in Lesotho will aid improve-ment in its services.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Airlink, Mr. Rodger Foster, commends the government of Lesotho for comm-issioning the installation of new navigational equipment and an Instrument Landing System at the airport, stating that the facilities would further operational safety improvements in poor weather conditions. “The GNSS technology will enable Airlink to provide a more consistent and reliable service than has been possible since 2007 when the old navigational beacons fell into disrepair causing numerous flight diversions during inclement weather and poor visibility conditions,” states Mr. Foster.
Airlink says it also plans to introduce additional flights on its daily services linking O.R. Tambo International Airport with Polokwane and Maseru, even as it intends to facilitate shorter connecting times at Johannesburg for Polokwane-bound passengers arriving from the UK and Europe and domestic travellers from Cape Town and Durban by operating a fourth daily return service to Polokwane in Limpopo Province.
