Following the failed terrorist bombing of an America-bound airline on December 25, 2009, Nigeria has upped security measures at Nigerian airports. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) announces that strict compliance must be demonstrated at all times with a number of enhanced security directives.
NCAA also adds that in combating the new threat of terrorism as unfolded recently, Nigeria will be upgrading its security screening system to 3D total body image scanner.
Some of NCAA’s directives include 100 per cent security screening of all including crew on-board, 100 per cent screening of checked-in baggage while positive passenger baggage match should be carried out. NCAA also lays emphasis on thorough security check on catering, fuel and maintenance vehicles accessing the airside, as well as total secondary screening of passengers and carry-on baggage for all departing flights at the boarding gates including body search.
