Qatar Closes Year 2009 With Four Aircraft Deliveries

The B777 is becoming Qatar Airways’ stronghold bonding it with its African passengers on ultra long-haulMiddle East carrier, Qatar Airways, says it took delivery of four new aircraft in December 2009 to wrap up the “busy” year. The additional aircraft comprising two Boeing 777-200 Long Range aircraft and two Airbus A320s brings the airline’s rapidly-growing fleet size to 76 aircraft.

Qatar Airways currently has outstanding orders for more than 220 aircraft worth over US$40 billion. With a planned delivery schedule of more than one new aircraft a month over the next few years, the new aircraft deliveries will replace older aircraft and boost the fleet to maintain a young and modern portfolio of planes.

“The additional Airbus A320s and A321s give Qatar Airways a firm footing in the rapid development and expansion of our regional network, while the Boeing 777s are quickly emerging as the backbone of our long-haul and ultra long-haul flying programme,” notes Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer. Qatar Airways recently launched flights to Goa in India; which allows its passengers flying from Europe, North America, Africa and the Middle East, excellent connections to the late evening departures from Doha to Goa.
