Changing Guard ... Kenya Airways Appoints New Group MD/CEO

sebasKenya Airways says it has appointed Mr. Sebastian Mikosz as the new Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the airline, effective June 1, 2017.

According to the airline, Mikosz has over 20 years of professional experience in Executive Management in both the private and public sectors and has held various non-executive roles as Supervisory Board member. He was formerly CEO of eSky.pl, a Central European Online Travel Agent, President and CEO of LOT Polish Airlines, and Vice-President of the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency, a governmental agency responsible for attracting foreign investors to Poland.

Mr. Michael Joseph, Chairman of the Board, Kenya Airways, observes: "On behalf of the Board of Directors of Kenya Airways and management, I wish to take this opportunity to offer Sebastian our most sincere congratulations on this appointment and confirm our full support to him as he takes over as Group Managing Director and CEO."

Mikosz takes over office from Mbuvi Ngunze, who the airline had earlier said would step down as MD and CEO of Kenya Airways in the first quarter of 2017.

"I wish to take this opportunity to offer Mbuvi Ngunze our most sincere appreciation for his dedicated contribution, support and service over the last five years. Mbuvi has led KQ during an extremely challenging period, but nonetheless, brought his unique leadership skills to bear, ensuring that the airline stayed afloat, leading from the front in negotiations with financiers and critical partners, and launching the turnabout which has achieved key milestones," Joseph says.

Mr. Joseph, however, discloses that Ngunze will stay beyond June as adviser to the company until the Capital Optimization plan is completed, latest by the end of July.
