Air Mauritius says for the first
time ever, it will be offering 1,850,000 seats on its network
worldwide - a 6.3% increase over last year. For Africa including
South Africa, Kenya and Madagascar, the airline plans 13,500
additional seats or +4%.
Capitalizing on the growth opportunities in the emerging
economies and with the view to diversify its market base, the
airline says it plans direct services to Shanghai with effect from
July 2011 as the hallmark of its growth in Asia.
The airline says it disclosed its
capacity plans to the tourism industry recently, while it also held
a meeting with the travel partners in Mauritius. Air Mauritius'
Acting CEO, Mr. André Viljoen, states that "Air Mauritius' capacity
deployed in our next Financial Year reaches the highest ever for
the airline and we are delighted to be providing more seats on our
existing services (and new service to Shanghai) to our valued
customers." He expresses hope that the tourism and travel partners
will be pleased with the additional opportunities for growth
worldwide and in particular in the emerging economies "- a strategy
we have adopted and which is aligned with Government's objectives
to rebalance the growth of the tourism industry and build in more
resilience."
