At the Air Cargo Africa 2011
Conference held recently in Nairobi Kenya, Ethiopian Airlines Cargo
came away with "The African Cargo Airline Of The Year" award.
According to the airline, the award was organized by STAT TIMES
International for rewarding excellence in Air Cargo operations in
Africa. STAT TIMES notes that Ethiopian Airlines Cargo won the
nominations of its readers worldwide for the "STAT TIMES
International Award for Excellence in Air Cargo" in the category of
African Cargo Airline Of The Year.
Ethiopian Airlines cargo is
acclaimed the second largest revenue source (next to passenger)
which is 15% of the total revenue of airlines. The airline says it
launched its first cargo charter operations to Nairobi in 1946.
Since then the airline has been transporting goods ranging from
industrial products to perishables.
Ethiopian reveals that it has
established a new state-of-the-art cargo terminal with the capacity
to hold 350,000 tons of cargo per annum that positions Addis Ababa
as a regional cargo hub. Further, Ethiopian Cargo also states that
it has established its main hub in Addis Ababa, its Europe hub in
Liege, its Middle East hub in Dubai and its Asia hub in Hong
Kong.
Madras and Mumbai are also major
cargo originating points. This, the airline states, is its
pioneering endeavor to primarily encourage and promote Africa's
export business to Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
