The Agency for the Regulation of
Safety of Air Navigation in Africa & Madagascar (ASECNA) now
has a new Director General, Mr. Amodou Guitteye, who has replaced
Mr. Yussuf Mahamat, the erstwhile DG, who has led the
organization's efforts over the past decade in boosting safe air
navigation in the region. Mr. Guitteye is the immediate-past
Director of ICAO's West & Central Africa Region based in Dakar,
Senegal.
Mr. Guitteye says his major objectives
are to improve on cooperation among AFI ANSPs and within ASECNA
States. He says he would also drive the accelerated adoption of
enhanced air traffic management system based on the Single African
Sky objective, as he urges for stronger cooperation among AFI
ANSPs. He would also build on the successes achieved under Mr.
Mahamat in the areas of new ATM technologies, among others. Mr.
Guitteye stresses on the need for compliance with ICAO SARPs in the
pursuit of a harmonized ATM infrastructure in the AFI region. Mr.
Guitteye is in a vantage position to reposition ASECNA and achieve
emerging harmonized ATM objectives in Africa given his ICAO
background and profound experience in ASECNA.
Mr. Guitteye was Technical Adviser,
Ministry of Public Works & Transport, Mali, and Ministry Of
Transport & Tourism, Mali. He also served as Director Of
Planning And Strategic Studies, Directorate ASECNA Headquarters,
Dakar Senegal; Chief, Research And Development Department, ASECNA
Headquarters, Dakar Senegal, and Manager International Airport
Bamako-Senou. He was also Director, Civil Aeronautics Board, Mali,
and Head Air Navigation Service ASECNA Bamako-Senou. He would be
driving and coordinating crucial interactions between ASECNA and
regional African groupings, non-ASECNA States as well as foreign
partners in the renewed efforts towards the achievement of emerging
ATM requirements in the ASECNA and AFI region.
