Following an earlier announcement
to restore operations to Libya starting 1st of November, 2011,
after the suspension of flights to the route for 7 months, EgyptAir
says it is set to commence flight services to Benghazi with 4
weekly non-stop flights on Saturdays, Mondays, Thursdays and
Tuesdays from Cairo. According to the airline, information from the
Libyan Civil Aviation Authorities revealed that Tripoli Airport is
still under development and repair processes, hence, EgyptAir says
it will restore operations to Tripoli once the airport is ready.
Eng.
Hussein Massoud, Chairman/CEO,
EgyptAir Holding, remarks: "EgyptAir puts the reoperation of the
flights between Egypt and Libya on its top priorities in this
period." "EgyptAir is one of the first airlines operating to
the Libyan cities. In addition, last year, we were operating 21
weekly flights, 14 flights to Tripoli and 7 to Benghazi. Also,
EgyptAir has completed the operational requirements to Tripoli and
will start operating once permitted."
Meanwhile, the airline notes that
starting December 2011, and due to the closure of El Nozha Airport
in Alexandria, all EgyptAir flights to and from Alexandria will be
operated from Borg El Arab airport.
