Claus Becker Replaces Herbert Reichle As MD, Lufthansa West Africa

The operations of Lufthansa in West Africa is to be driven by a new Managing Director, Mr. Claus Becker, with effect from November 1, 2011. He replaces Mr. Herbert Reichle who has served as Managing Director of Lufthansa West Africa in the past five years, during which period he brought the Lufthansa operations closer to more travellers in the emerging market in West Africa. Mr. Becker had arrived Lufthansa's base in Lagos, Nigeria, in November having served at Lufthansa operations in Germany, France and other parts of Europe. Mr. Becker is acclimatizing with the new and emerging market environment in West Africa, working with Mr. Reichle who is retiring end of 2011. Mr. Becker says he will continue to ensure that the Lufthansa brand gets stronger foothold in the market in the region while exploring partnership opportunities in  the region as well. Mr. Reichle describes the market in Nigeria as important to Lufthansa operations in the Africa region with huge opportunities for the present and the long-term. According to him, Lufthansa has established a strong bonding between the region and Germany with the interconnectivity on the airline's extensive network across Europe and beyond. Lufthansa operates from Frankfurt to Lagos, Malabo, Accra and Abuja on the West Africa services. Lufthansa is one of the world's leading airline brands bringing the A380 to Johannesburg. It offers over 200 flights to more than 80 countries.

Meanwhile, Lufthansa says it is increasing its Accra/Frankfurt service from five weekly non-stop flights to a daily service with a newly configured Boeing 737-800 Intercontinental, featuring the airline's latest product.

According to the airline, further enhancement of the flight schedule will allow travellers enjoy greater flexibility and the convenience of a daily link with Lufthansa's Frankfurt hub, one of the world's leading gateways for air travel.
