Delta Spreads Through Africa, As Monrovia Comes Aboard

From East to West, and from North to South of Africa, Delta Airlines is permeating the continent's air transport market with direct servings as one of its key unique selling points.

Delta Air Lines says it has launched its first direct flight between Liberia and the United States. The service will operate weekly between Roberts Intern-ational Airport in Monrovia and Delta's hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, with an inter-mediate stop in Accra, Ghana. Monrovia becomes the seventh African destination served by Delta from the United States.

The flight will be operated using a Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. In addition to convenient direct service between Liberia and the US, customers can connect to about 150 connections throughout the United States and beyond from Atlanta, to cities including New York-JFK, Washington, D.C., Boston and Chicago.

"Our new flight between Monrovia and Atlanta significantly expands international travel options for our Liberian customers, and underscores Delta's ongoing commitment to Africa," Cantarutti said. "We are proud to launch the only direct service to the United States from Liberia, which will serve to strengthen bus-iness and tourism links between the U.S. and this fast-growing African economy." Delta launched its first service to Africa in 2006. Delta also intends to serve Malabo, Equatorial Guinea; Nairobi, Kenya; and Luanda, Angola once government approvals are received.
